How Not to Get Lost in Localization
On 12 May, representatives of the areas of technical editing, software development and translation shared their experiences on the subject of ‘Content Supply Chain – Latest Technology for Technical Writers and Translators‘ at the Chamber of Commerce in Vienna. GORNIK was there too, contributing a presentation entitled ‘Lost in Localization? – Bridging the Gaps between Developers, Technical Writers and Translators‘.
With a strong practical focus, the speakers outlined current trends in the compilation and translation of technical manuals and software. Subject matter ranged from translation-oriented authoring of technical documentation to the latest technological developments in interface programming. The agenda was rounded off with a panel discussion in which the future of translation and training for editors and translators were discussed; participants also examined why the two disciplines have more in common than would appear at first glance. A happy hour was then held, enabling attendees to get to know one another and establish networks.
The conference – originally organized as a pilot project by tekom Österreich, tekom Magyarország and the Austrian and Hungarian associations of language service providers AATC and Proford – was a resounding success. Tekom members can download the presentation slides at http://www.technical-communication.org/at/veranstaltungen-und-aktivitaeten/downloads.html as from the end of May. We would like to thank the organizers, speakers and guests for an interesting day of fresh perspectives!
